Film students on set filming at The los Angeles Film School Stage

UCLA's Extension's Entertainment Studies and the Los Angeles Film School have joined forces to bring you great courses. Held at the Los Angeles Film School's state-of-the-art facility located at Sunset and Vine, these courses feature the most advanced equipment used in the entertainment industry.

DV Filmmaker's Toolbox: A Production Workshop

Simulating the experience of a real production company, participants develop, pre-produce, shoot and edit a number of three-minute shorts. This hands-on workshop is a toolbox for producers, directors, cinematographers, editors, and other crew members to draw from and utilize throughout their careers. In the first weekend's interactive lecture, participants develop an understanding of the elements of storytelling for film. During the following three weeks of preparation, they gain the skills essential to coalesce into a functioning film crew in a realistic production environment and learn about the basics of producing, directing, and editing. The shoot takes place on the fifth week, either on the UCLA campus or at the Los Angeles Film School stage, with each student participating in various crew capacities. During the last week, filmmakers edit their project using Avid DV Express. Participants are invited to contribute a three-minute screenplay at the time of admission. Scripts are selected by the instructor; submit your screenplay by April 26 to: DV Toolbox, Daniele J Suissa, 6363 Sunset Blvd., Suite 400, Hollywood, CA 90028. Fulfills Production Workshop and Digital Technologies/Convergence requirements in Certificated Program in Film, Television, and Digital Entertainment Media. Visitors not permitted.
